The Life Line
Hello!
Ash here, giving you a little life lesson-or rather a lesson about the life line. What exactly does that mean? the life line is a major line on the palm, many people believe it indicates how long your life will be…which is very dramatic and scary…but also completely wrong. This belief survives and thrives on the internet and media, but today we’re going to look at what it actually means! no worries, but the end of this post you’ll be able to read your palm yourself…or at least your life line.
in palmistry, there are three primary lines on the palm: the head line, the heart line, and the life line! When palmists look at a hand, they use the life line to determine the energy of the person, its like a battery, not in that it supplies life energy, but rather how you handle daily life. For example, some people can run marathons and then go for drinks with friends, while others have to call it a day after sending one email. Palmists can see which type of person you are by studying the life line. It also helps map out times and important dates in your life, but mostly your past rather than your future.
The life line is located between the index finger and thumb, often in a large curve. It traces the edge of the mount of Venus, which sounds very romantic but we’ll cover that more in a later post. There are multiple shapes and colors of the life line, and just like snowflakes, no palms are the same, but we can use generalizations to determine how to read this line.
Western palmistry, derived from the Greeks, Romans, and medieval occultists looks mostly at line, shape, depth, and interruptions. lets go over each of these factors!
LENGTH
the length of the life line does not determine how long you live, instead it shows vitality and strength, a person with a long life line will usually have energy that almost never seems to deplete, they’re constantly burning the midnight oil and they’ll still have energy in the morning later. a short life line, once again, does NOT mean you’ll have a short life. instead it shows that you might get tired a little more easily than those with a longer life line. they can still have intense periods of high energy, but they'll probably need a day or two of recovery afterwards.
SHAPE
the shape of the line determines your zest for life and indicates how the person approaches life, for example, a line that stretches across the palm shows an adventurous person, ready to use their energy to explore the world around them! meanwhile, a line that hugs closely to the thumb shows a more reserved person, they can still have plenty of energy and adventure, but they might prefer their adventure in book form!
DEPTH
a deeply carved line shows physical resilience, and a strong constitution, meanwhile a faint line shows someone who gets fatigued rather easily.
INTERRUPTIONS AND QUALITY
like any other line, there can be special shapes, gaps, and other interruptions in the line. we’re gonna go through these fast, so buckle up!
breaks don't indicate disaster, instead they represent major life changes, like moves, recovery from illness or injury, major changes in identity, or new chapters in life.
double lines- these are incredibly special lines, often referred to as guardian lines, in some western interpretations, these lines suggest you have a guardian angel or ancestral protector. if you don't believe in angels…what are you even doing here? just kidding, but if you wanna get technical, a double life line can also be considered like a backup battery, double the energy!
chains-a chained line, or a line with little loops along it indicates a period of stress, illness, or emotional turbulence. they often appear on very empathetic individuals,
branches- a branch, or line that comes off the main line also has a meaning. an upward branch shows ambition, usually based on the finger it reaches towards, something we’ll cover in a later video. a lower branch or one that goes towards the wrist shows periods of instability, stress, or other problems. however, always keep in mind, palms show your story and are constantly changing. so don’t be afraid of lines!
now lets travel east for a bit, in Indian palmistry, the life line is called Hasta Samudrika Shastra, and shows prana or life energy, karma, and earthly destiny. Chinese palmistry is similar but prana is replaced with qi, which is more or less the same thing but a different name,
in eastern palmistry, the life line is important, but the more important part is the mount of Venus inside the line. full, well-developed mount suggests passion, warmth, and strong life force.
A flatter mount might indicate someone more reserved or disciplined.
Eastern readers also pay attention to the color and texture of the line.
color is also an important part of interpretation in eastern practices. A normal healthy line should be slightly reddish, indicating strong circulation and vitality. a pale line shows fatigue, either emotional or physical.
the biggest difference between how the west and easy read palms is simple, in the west the life line tells a story, in the east, it shows your state of being.
palmists can also estimate timing of events in your life by measuring the life line. childhood starts at the index finger and old age near the wrist. this isn’t always accurate, but can reveal some important information about events when considered in combination with the rest of the lines on the palm.
next time someone tells you your short life line means certain doom…you can politely tell them they’ve been watching too many movies. the life line isn’t about predicting death, instead it shows how energy fuels your life, which is much more interesting in my opinion.
in the future we’ll discuss the head line, which shows how you think, learn, and occasionally spiral into existential dread. until then, take a look at your hand, you have your whole life in it.
